Styling research to enhance existing products : just as well as creating new products is necessary, creating a better look for your existing products is important. You can have a technically advanced product, which functions marvelously well. But if the client doesn’t see that in the first gaze, he will look at your rivals package which will be presented on the same shelf. Or what if your product could be made less heavy, much smaller, using less materials, more ecologic, more attractive, easier to handle, easier to clean… Wouldn’t those be several reasons for the clients to buy yours? You should ask yourself these questions before putting a product on the market, and again before closing the market. It can be much more interesting enhancing an existing product than to create a new one.
A product can be enhanced by small changes :
- In color, material or surface finishing.
- Changing some details such as the lid, buttons, decoration.
- A new plastic or metal carter, keeping the inside structure identical.
- Minor improvements as an easier way to carry it, or improved stronger angles, or making it lighter.
You can also think about intern improvements : easier constructing, easier recycling, ability to put more products on one pallet, etcetera.
